Subject: Netherlands History!
Few 21st century Dutch remember the Zuiderzee. That North Sea inlet was the gateway to the port of Amsterdam and provided the source of income for many fishing villages. It had just been dammed off to become the lake, Ysselmeer, at the time this song was recorded. Nevertheless, revue artist Mr Louis Davids is already in a nostalgic mood. The quality of the recording is so great that it makes me feel sorry too.
